Bubba Grills is Perfection Times Two

 

Gordon, GA — Lonnie Smith, pitmaster of Bubba Grills, proved to be master of the perfect rib at the Fall Line Festival BBQ Contest. Not only did his team score a perfect 600 points in the Ribs preliminary round; he also claimed a perfect score in the Ribs Finals.  Perfection times 2 equals a Grand Championship for Bubba Grills.

Sauced Hogs Smoke Shack placed first in Loin, 4th in Ribs and 8th in Pork in the preliminary rounds to win the Reserve Grand Championship.

In Pork Loin, Anarque, Holy Smokers and Sauced Hogs Smoke Shack were the three finalists.  Anarque won the finals round and claim first place in the category. Sauced Hogs Smoke Shack took second with Holy Smokers in third. Bubba Grills took fourth place with SmokinWilly Squealers in fifth.

Anarque, Smokin AJs and SmokinWilly Squealers were the three finalists in Pulled Pork. Only 0.6 of a point separated first from third place in the finals.  Anarque, once again, claimed the top score with SmokinWilly Squealers as runner up. Smoking AJ’s finished third. Party Porkers and Holy Smokers rounded out the top five.

Bubba Grills perfect preliminary score secured a spot in the Ribs Finals along with Five O’Clock Somewhere and Ivey Rack and Que.  Bubba Grills again scored a perfect 600 in finals to take first place. Ivey Rack and Que and Five O’Clock Somewhere finished second and third respectively. Fourth went to Sauced Hogs Smoke Shack with fifth place going to Smokin AJs.

Hog Jam October 12-13, 2012

The Georgia Barbecue Association (GBA) will be sanctioning the Hog Jam 2012, Some Jam Good BBQ, at The Lodge at Copperhead in Blairsville, GA on October 12-13, 2012. This is the first year the GBA has sanctioned the contest sponsored by Forty Creek Whisky.

Over $6,000 in cash & prizes will be awarded to the contestants, including $1500 to the Grand Champion. There will be ancillary contests on Friday evening in Stew, Dessert & Sauce. Saturday morning will host the ancillary Bloody Mary contest. Backyard teams will also compete, with $250 to the Grand Champion of this division.

Friday evening will feature music by the 12 Gauge Persuaders with a welcome reception for the teams and advance wristband holders. Modern Vinyl and Mike Watson Band (2012 Blues Band of the Year) will perform. Vendors & Artists will be on hand Saturday as well.

A Car & Bike show sponsored by Lawbike.com on Saturday will round out the events of the competition. $15 admission, includes parking and BBQ tasting. Advance wristband holders can also join us Friday evening for the Welcome Reception.

FALL LINE FESTIVAL OCTOBER 5-6

The 13th Annual Gordon Fall Line Festival will be on October 5-6, 2012.  For the 3rd year the festival will include a GBA sanctioned BBQ contest.

Gordon has very nice grass cook sites with power & water at each site.  The festival offers lots for families.  The contest is always a great host for GBA.

 

 

 

 

 

Other events include handmade art and crafts, a broad range of food choices, a concert featuring The Grapevine Band,  followed by magnificent fireworks by Pyrotecnico,  Old Capitol Car Club Show, Skippin’ & Poppin’ Antique Tractor Parade & Show, children’s rides, and the GBA sanctioned Fall-Line BBQ Cookoff

 

 

 

D.W.s Kountry Cookers win big in Sumner

Grand Champions – D.W.s Kountry Cookers

D.W,s Kountry Cookers scored a perfect 600 in the Ribs preliminary round in the Sumner Egg Festival BBQ Bash. They followed that with a near perfect Rib entry in the finals round to capture the Grand Championship.  Mr Joe Wright, pitmaster for Belhel Smokers, finished first in both Loin & Pork and second in Ribs in the preliminary rounds to take the Reserve Grand Championship.

 

 

D.W.s Kountry Cookers took the first place award in Pork Loin.  Bethel Smokers claimed second. Smokin’ 42 BBQ finished third place.  Fourth place went to Phoebe Worth Rib Ticklers with LawDog BBQ taking fifth place. 

 

 

In Pork, Bethel Smokers claimed first place ahead of runner up D.W.s Kountry Cookers. Smokin’ 42 BBQ once again was called in third place.  It was Jethro’s Cooking Crew with the fourth place entry.  LawDog BBQ got their second top 5 finish in the category.

 

 

 

 

D.W.’s Kountry Cookers turned in the best ribs of the day & claimed the first place banner.  Bethel Smokers continued their strong cook in taking second place. Jeff Schramm of Jethro’s Cooking Crew walked in third placed.  LawDog BBQ added a fourth placed finish to their successful weekend.  Phoebe Worth Rib Ticklers grabbed fifth place.

Smokin Grill Captures GBA State Championship

GBA State Champions – Smokin’ Grill BBQ

Thirty six of the best BBQ pitmasters in the state gathered in Fort Valley on September 7-8, 2012 for the 7th Annual ComSouth Hambone Jam and the GBA State Championship.  The cook teams arrived to find a new venue for the competition at the new Festival Park.  The new setup was a huge hit with the cook teams with 50 amp power & water at each cook site.

With a score of 599.4 in Loin Finals, Smokin’ Grill BBQ, pitmaster Sta C Hale, captured the Grand Championship and the GBA State Championship. The champions clamed a cash award of $3,000 for the Grand Championship. The team was also awarded a 36″ semi-insulated smoker from Jack’s Old South Smokers, an invitation to the World Food Championships in Las Vegas, NV and $1,000 in travel money from the GBA. This was the first Grand Championship for Smokin’ Grill BBQ.

Reserve Grand Champion – Smokin’ AJs

Smokin’ AJs  was named Reserve Grand Champion for the highest overall cumulative score in the preliminary rounds with a first place in Pork and second place in Loin.

Following Smokin’ AJ’s in the Pork category was 5 O’clock Somewhere in second place.  Cook’s Portable Smokehouse recorded a perfect score of 600 in the Pork preliminary round and took 3rd place in the finals.  Rounding out the top five were D.W.’s Kountry Cookers and Budmiesters. This was the first GBA competition for Budmiesters.
