Judge Training Class Set for Acworth, GA

A judge training class has been scheduled for March 8, 2014 in Acworth, GA. The class will be held at the Roberts School at 4681 School Street.

Sign in for the call begins at 11:30 AM. The class will begin at 1:00 PM. The class lasts approximately 3 hours. A meal will be served following the class.

Membership in the GBA is required to take the class. Membership fees are $35 for individuals or $50 for a family membership. Family memberships are limited to two adults living in the same household. The fee for the class is $35 per person. Fees are paid by cash or personal check at sign in. If paying with cash, please have the correct amount.

In order to expedite the sign in process, please download a Membership Application & have it filled out prior to arriving.

Seating is limited . Each person who wishes to take the judge training class must fill out the form below to reserve a seat. If both husband and wife plan to attend, each needs to fill out the form. below.

Motion: Rick Godfrey Second: Danny Meadows To use the following process to fill the temporary Board vacancy: each Board Member will nominate two candidates from which the Board will chose 4 finalists to interview before selecting the person to fill the vacancy. Amendment: Jim Sewell Second: Rick Godfrey To nominate the candidates during the Executive Session.	Approved 5-1
Motion: Alex Khoury Second: Greg Hoyt To require all new judges to receive GBA judge training and to end the practice of grandfathering in judges trained by other associations. (effective immediately)	Approved 6-0
Motion: Greg Hoyt Second: Danny Meadows To change the scoring procedure in finals judging to require decimal point scoring in each criteria and prohibiting judges from giving the same score to different entries in each criteria. (effective immediately)	Approved 6-0

The Board voted to close Executive Session and return to General Session.

Change Notice for Grande Creek Pig Jam

The 2014 Grande Creek Pig Jam will be moving the contest date to September 19-20, 2014. The contest will again be held at the Georgia Sports Arena. The BBQ contest will be part of a great, new bluegrass festival. The GBA is proud to once again sanction this contest. The addition of some fantastic bluegrass music will make this an event not to be missed.

Board of Directors Meeting

The Georgia Barbecue Association (GBA) Board of Directors will meet on Saturday, January 4, 2014. The meeting will be held at Bradley Baptist Church 821 Monticello Hwy Gray Georgia 31032. The meeting will begin at noon. There will be a general session following by an executive session. The general session is open to all GBA members in good standing. The executive session will be a closed session for board members only. The agenda for the meeting is still be finalized & will be posted at least 24 hours in advance of the meeting.

Any GBA member may submit items to be considered for inclusion on the agenda. Also, members wishing to address the board must submit the request prior to the agenda being finalized. All agenda items or requests to address the board should be directed to Chairman Rick Godfrey at Rick.Godfrey2@ferguson.com .
