To edit the wording of the tie break procedure to improve clarity, as follows:

  • Compare the total score for TASTE. If tied, compare the number of 10’s in the criteria.
  • Compare the total score for TENDERNESS. If tied, compare the number of 10’s in the criteria.
  • Compare the total score for APPEARANCE. If tied, compare the number of 10’s in the criteria.
  • Compare the total score for OVERALL IMPRESSION. If tied, compare the number of 10’s in the criteria.
  • Flip a coin.

To revise the Nomination/Election process as follows:

  • The Candidate Qualifying Period shall be from April 1 to April 15 of the year prior to the end of the current officers’ terms.
  • Any member in good standing may qualify to run for office by declaring their intent to run to the Chairman of the Board of Directors in writing by email or regular mail.
  • On or after April 16, the Chairman of the Board of Directors will announce the candidates for office to the membership via email and posting on the GBA’s website.
  • The voting period will be from June 1 to June 10.

GBA Board of Directors Meeting

The GBA Board of Directors will meet on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 10:00 am.  The meeting will be held at the fairgrounds in Jackson, GA .  The meeting is open to all GBA members in good standing.

Anyone who has an issue they would like to place before the board should contact Board Chairman Rick Godfrey to have the issue considered for the agenda.  The agenda for the meeting will be posted at least 24 hours prior to the meeting.

Barbecue Crew Takes Grand on Home Turf

Foy Whatley of the Barbece Crew had the rest of the GBA Pitmasters right where he wanted them on his home turf at the Moultrie Moose Lodge Cookoff.  Whatley racked up the top score in the finals round with his Pulled Pork entry to claim the Grand Championship in the second year event.

Just Blowing Smoke made finals in both Loin and Ribs to go with a 7th place finish in Pulled Pork to win the Reserve Champion award.

Just Blowing Smoke led the way in the Loin category with H & J Cooking Team and Buster Davis of Smokin’ AJ’s following in second and third.  Real South BBQ took fourth place with Lawdawg BBQ taking fifth.  Sixth place with to 92 BBQ/Assassin Smokers.  Fiddler’s BBQ finished 7th and Sunset Smokers finished 8th  Ninth place went to Marky Mark Smokin Butts with Phoebe Worth Rib Ticklers rounding out the top 10.

 

Barbecue Crew had the best Pulled Pork of the contest.  H & J Cooking Teams again was the runner up.  Hungry Hog BBQ took third place.   92 BBQ/Assassin Smokers  just missed the finals on a tiebreaker to come in fourth place.   Fiddler’s BBQ took fifth place with Forget Me Not BBQ taking 6th place. In 7th place was Just Blowing Smoke and Real South BBQ finished in 8th place.  Smokin’ AJs and Durt Road Smokerz finished ninth & tenth respectively.

Just Blowing Smoke won their second category of the contest with the top score in Ribs. Fiddler’s BBQ came in second with Travis & Montae Webb of Sunset Smokers coming in third place. H & J Cooling Team took fourth place.  Fifth place went to Marky Mark Smokin Butts in just their second contest.  Double D Cooking Team took sixth place and Smokin J’s BBQ took seventh place. Eighth through tenth places were Durt Road Smokerz, Colquitt Cookers and Lawdawg BBQ.

 

 

In the backyard contest Larry Cavendar of Screaming Eagle BBQ won the chicken category with Cowboy Smokin. G.W. McLeod pitmaster, winning Pulled Pork and Ribs.

A Grand Time in Albany for Dobey Que

The Quail Classic Event in Albany, GA and the Georgia Barbecue Association joined forces for the first time.  The event was held at the Stonebridge Country Club.  The teams and judges enjoyed the hospitality of this unique venue especially the different twist on a people’s choice contest with their Hospitality Challenge.

David Hair, cooking for the first time in GBA as Dobey Que, got the final call of the day and the Grand Championship.

Kerry Sparks of LawDawg BBQ continued her strong run of contests by making finals in both Loin and Pulled Pork along with a 6th place finish in Ribs.  The gave LawDawg BBQ the top cumulative score across the three categories in the preliminary rounds and the Reserve Championship.

Shirley & Harvey Wills of Fiddlers BBQ won the People”s Choice Hospitality Challenge.  H  & J Cooking Team took second place with Marky Mark’s Smoking Butts capturing third place.

 

Dobey Que’s Grand Championship Loin entry topped the category with LawDawg BBQ as runner-up and H & J Cooking Team in third.place.  Fourth place went to Old Henry’s BBQ, fifth place went to Real South BBQ and sixth place went to Fiddler’s BBQ.  Just Blowing Smoke took seventh place with Hungry Hog BBQ in eighth place. The ninth place call went to Southern Hogs with 92 BBQ/Assassin Smokers rounding out the top 10.

 

 

 

LawDawg BBQ had to top Pulled Pork Box of the contest.  Hungry Hog BBQ was a close second.  Real South BBQ took third place.  Fourth place went to Fiddler’s BBQ and fifth place went to Just Blowing Smoke.  Southern Hogs grabbed sixth place; H & J Cooking team grabbed seventh and Durt Road Smokers grabbed eighth place.  92 BBQ/Assassin Smokers and Old Henry’s BBQ finished ninth and tenth respectively.

In Ribs, it was Tim Coleman and Real South BBQ for the win. Second place went to 92 BBQ/Assassin Smokers.  Dobey Que took third place with Southern Hogs in fourth.  Just Blowing Smoke and LawDawg BBQ tied for fifth place with Just Blowing Smoke getting the nod on the 4th tiebreaker.  H &  Cooking Team came in seventh place. There was also a tie for eighth place and it went to the 5th tiebreaker before Fiddler’s BBQ edged out Old Henry’s BBQ.  Hungry Hog got the tenth place call

The Georgia Barbecue Association would like to thank the administration and staff of Stonebridge Country Club for putting on an outstanding contest.
