Real South BBQ Takes Grand over Tough Field at Moultrie Moose Lodge BBQ Cook-Off

Grand Champions – Real South BBQ

Moultrie, Dec 3,2016: Twenty two of the top GBA teams, including the top 5 in the Team of the Year chase. gathered at the Moose Lodge for the last contest of the 2016 calendar year. It was a tight contest as only 0.5 of a point decided the Grand Championship and less than a point separated the top two teams for the Reserve Grand Championship.

First Place Pulled Pork – Fat Boys of Tenneson Nissan

Tim Coleman & team Real South BBQ had the top entry in the finals rounds with Ribs to win the Grand Championship. Robby Royal continued his hot streak on the GBA circuit by winning the Reserve Grand Championship.

600 Score – Just Blowing Smoke

Rescue Smokers & Just Blowing Smoke finished 1-2 in the Loin final round after both recorded a perfect 600 score in the preliminary round. Smokin’ AJs took 3rd place. Fat Boys of Tenneson Nissan, Pitmaster Randy Meadows, took top honors in Pulled Pork. Holy Smokes took 2nd with Southern Hogs taking 3rd place. The Grand Championship Ribs of Real South BBQ won the category. Smokin’ AJs was the runner-up and Southern Hogs again claimed 3rd place.

In the Cooking for Fun contest; Nuts & Butts BBQ won both Chicken & Pulled Pork while Big Butts BBQ won Ribs.

The GBA will take a break for the holidays before staring off 2017 on Feb 24-25 in Vienna for Dilly Dally in Dooley. The GBA salutes the Moultrie Moose Lodge for their hospitality and hosting another great contest.

Smokin’ the Good Stuff Wins With Loin at Smokin’ Pork N Butts

Grand Chammpion – Smokin the Good Stuff

It was a tough field of 23 teams assembled in Jackson for the new November edition of Smokin’ Pork N Butts. At the end, it was Gary Godfrey and Smokin’ the Good Stuff scoring a 599.4 out of a possible 600 in Loin Finals to claim the Grand Championship.

Reserve Champion – QueNut

QueNut, Pitmaster Alvin Meyer, made finals in Loin & Ribs alon with 4th place call in Pulled Pork won the Reserve Grand Champion award.

Brisket Winner – 4K BBQ

Smokin’ the Good Stuff and We Want Que both scored perfect 600 scores in the Loin preliminary round. It was Smokin’ the Good Stuff taking first in finals over We Want Que. QueNut took 3rd place. Rescue Smokers took top honors in Pulled Pork. Southern Hogs grabbed 2nd place with Smokin’ the Good Stuff in 3rd place. QueNut won the Ribs category. Southern Hogs was again the runner up. Hold Your Horses walked in the 3rd place. In the Brisket ancillary, 4K BBQ won the winner take all contest with a perfect 600 score.

The teams all enjoyed to move to fall from the traditional, rain filled spring dates. Hats off to Wayne & Connie Rosser for another outstanding contest.

Rescue Smokers Defies the Odds to Take Grand at Wiggle & Twist

Grand Champion – Rescue Smokers

When the preliminary rounds ended at Johnson County Co Wiggle & Twist, the odds were stacked against Robby Royal of Rescue Smokers. Newly crowned GBA State Champion Gary Lanton & Holy Smokes made finals in all three categories. Top 5 teams, Southern Hogs & Real South BBQ had made finals in 2 categories. Another top contender, Captain Jack’s Freedom BBQ Team had finaled in Ribs. Royal made finals in Loin which, oh by the way, Holy Smokes has just scored perfect 600 in the preliminaries. Robby put the Rescue Style mojo on his finals entry and walked last as Grand Champion.

Holy Smokes recorded scores of 600, 599.1 & 599.4 in the preliminary rounds for a cumulative total of 1798.5 (out of a possible 1800) to win the Reserve Grand Champion award.

Following Rescue Smokers in Loin were Holy Smokes in second & Southern Hogs in third place. Holy Smokes won Pulled Pork with Real South BBQ as runner up. Southern Hogs again took 3rd place. It was Holy Smokes got their second category win in Ribs. Real South BBQ walked again in 2nd place and Captain Jacks Freedom BBQ Team rounded out the top three.

Holy Smokes Takes GBA State Championship

GBA State Champions – Holy Smokes

The largest field of the year, 39 teams, gathered in Milledgeville for the Deep Roots Festival and the Georgia Barbecue Association (GBA) State Championships. The GBA State Championship is sponsored by Stump’s Smokers who present the State Champion with a $2,500 bonus on top of their Grand Championship winnings. Gary & Dionne Lanton of Holy Smokes scored a perfect 600 score in the Pulled Pork preliminary round, but it was their near perfect (599.7) score in the Loin Finals that earned them the Grand Champion and GBA State Champion titles.

First Place Pulled Pork – Bull Rush

The Rub Shakers Que team of Bill & Renee Goddard made finals in Loin along with a 5th place in Pulled Pork and a 7th place in Ribs to earn the Reserve Championship award.

Holy Smokes topped the Loin category. Rub Shakers took second place and a local Millegeville team Rotary Roasters brought home the 3rd place trophy. In Pulled Pork, Bull Rush BBQ took top honors with Hold Your Horses in 2nd place. Holy Smokes rounded out the top 3.

Nissan won the Ribs contest with Captain Jack’s Freedom BBQ Team taking 2nd. Que Shack came in 3rd place. Que Shack also had a perfect 600 score in the ribs preliminary round.

The GBA head to Johnson Co next week for Wiggled & Twist. In Novemeber, it will be in Jackson for Smokin Pork N Butts followed by the Moultrie Moose Lodge BBQ Cook-off in December.

Smoking the Good Stuff Rides Off With Grand at Doc Holiday BBQ Championship

Grand Champion – Smoking the Good Stuff

Sept 24, 2016 Griffin, GA: Pitmaster Gary Godfrey and team Smoking the Good Stuff, won the final round shoot out with Pork Loin to wing the Grand Championship at the Doc Holiday BBQ Championship. Jack & Sandi Fallin of Captain Jack’s Freedom BBQ Team made finals in both Pulled Pork & Ribs plus 5th place in Loin to win the Reserve Grand Championship,

Reserve Champion – Captain Jack’s Freedom BBQ Team

First Place Pork – Rescue Smokers

First Place Ribs – Smoke Shack

Smoking the Good Stuff and Just Blowing Smoke both scored a perfect 600 in the Loin preliminary round and finished 1st & 2nd respectively in finals. Just Smoke N Around got the 3rd Loin Finals call by edging Holy Smokes on a tiebreaker and finished 3rd. In Pulled Pork, Rescue Smokers topped the category and also had a 600 score in preliminary round. Southern Hogs took 2nd with Captain Jack’s Freedom BBQ team taking 3rd. Smoke Shack won the Rib category in a tiebreaker over Captain Jack’s Freedom BBQ Team. Lang BBQ Team claimed 3rd place.

Brisket Champion – Holy Smokes

The contest also hosted the Georgia State Brisket Championship. Gary & Dionn Lanton of Holy Smokes won the Brisket championship.

CFF Pork – Pork U

CFF Ribs – Hickory Flats BBQ Co.

In the Cooking For Fun division, Pork U won Pulled Pork and Hickory Flat BBQ Co. won Ribs.
