Just Blowin’ Smoke Wins the Shootout at Doc Holiday Festival
The GBA made its debut at the Doc Holiday Festival in downtown Griffin, GA and it turned into a 3 way shootout for the Grand Championship. In the end, the Loin entry by Robin Bowles & Just Blowin’ Smoke topped the Pulled Pork box by Dixie Que’s Rick Godfrey and the Ribs entry of Gary Lanton of Holy Smokes.
Dixie Que finaled in Pulled Pork, finished 6th in Ribs and 11th in Loin to take the Reserve Championship for the top cumulative score in the three preliminary rounds.
Just Blowin’ Smoke’s championship Loin box topped the category. Two Fat Boys & A Grill came in second with Rolling Smoke Competition Que in third place. Swine Time Grillin’ Team took fourth place. 92 BBQ/Assassin Smokers edged Bearded BBQ for fifth place on the tiebreaker. Real South BBQ grabbed seventh place and RTC Smokin’ grabbed eighth place. Fiddler’s BBQ in ninth and H & J Cooking Team in tenth rounded out the top 10,
Dixie Que won Pulled Pork with Just Blowin’ Smoke the runner-up. Fiddler’s BBQ came in third with H & J Cooking Team in fourth. Swine Time Grillin’ Team nailed down the fifth spot. Sixth place went to Rub Shakers Que and seventh place went to Old Henry’s BBQ. In eight place was Holy Smokes; in ninth place was Smokin’ J’s and in tenth place was Real South BBQ.
Holy Smokes had the best box of Ribs on the day. Two Fat Boys & A Grill took second place with 29 Barbecue taking third place. 92 BBQ/Assassin Smokers edged out Rub Shakers Que for fourth place by 0.3 of a point. Dixie Que finished in the sixth spot. In seventh place was Fiddler’s BBQ with RTC Smokin’ in eighth place. Real South BBQ and Just Blowin’ Smoke tied for ninth place with Real South BBQ coming out on top in the tiebreaker.
The Doc Holiday Festival also held a GBA sanctioned Cooking for Fun contest. The GBA’s Cooking for Fun division competes in two categories: Pulled Pork and Ribs. Simply Q topped Swine Dining in Pulled Pork. Swine Dining returned the favor by topping Simply Q to win the Ribs category.
The GBA teams, judges and officials had a great time at the Doc Holiday Festival and are looking forward to a return trip in 2015. The next stop on the GBA contest trail with another first year event at the South Cobb BBQ & Blues Festival at the EpiCenter in Austell, GA. Full results below:
